The method of teaching wherein students will be made to work overtime in order to gain knowledge and skills is called project based teaching method, and in here, students will investigate and respond to problems, challenges or questions that are engaging, authentic and complex. The system in this method is considered innovative, especially there is a promotion for students to engage in deep investigations of complex questions. Thus, the skills and knowledge of students are engaged to the students while they are inspired to make their questioning active, deep, and reasonable.
In this system, there will be a dynamics created in a classroom where students can actively explore problems and challenges that are real in the world, and allow accessibility for all students to have a deeper knowledge.
There is a type of school called community school that would allow students to fully engage in an experience based learning, through the creation of a safe, supportive and stable environment, with the end goal of bridging community impact and academic excellence.
In a community school, there is a partnership created between the institution, families and the community, with the goal of inspiring students to develop a sense of purpose while striving for academic excellence. Furthermore, the method will foster a strong character in a student, helping him or her to be lifelong learners, and become an empowered socially conscious citizen of the world, which all of these qualities are essential to gain success in the changing world they are facing.
In this type of school, it is recognized that what is critical to the success of the student is having a combined principles of social-emotional learning together with academic excellence.
Together with an adult, students will have meetings in small groups in the facility in this kind of system. A staff member called village leader will provide guidance for the academic success of students by connecting them with supports thus meeting their needs, monitor their progress and coaching understanding. To build meaningful relationships, time is also dedicated to support the social emotional needs of students, and pave the way for learning of readiness and mindfulness.
With the curriculum materials and instructional strategies of the project based method, students are provided with meaningful context to engage deeply in the study and take ownership of the academic skills they have earned.
These community inspired schools believe that for students to reach high academic expectations, they must be ready to learn. Other important factors of which the method is anchored upon are the ideas that a student will do better if her or his family will do better, that there is an interconnection of communities and schools, that a child’s life will have a difference with the school’s inclusion, and that the success of the child is dependent on his or her whole development.
